Residents submit their ideas on road safety proposals

by Haringey Lib Dems on 27 June, 2012

Katherine Reece, Stroud Green Councillor and Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem group on Haringey council, has this week submitted a list of residents ideas and concerns to Haringey’s highways officials, to try to influence plans for road safety measures on Upper Tollington Park.  As Councillor Richard Wilson mentioned in a previous post on his blog, a long running campaign by Lynne Featherstone, councillors and residents has resulted in the Council awarding £120,000 for road safety measures.

The money is to be focused on improving safety at the pedestrian crossing, the junction with Florence Road, and the junction with Lancaster and Scarborough Roads.   Katherine wrote to residents across the area asking for input.  The main issues raised were:

  • 100% agreement that there is a problem with the pedestrian crossing and that it needs to be made safer
  • 100% agreement that speeding is an issue
  • 5 residents raised concerns about humps or raised junctions causing vibration problems to nearby homes
  • 5 residents called for traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing
  • Poor visibility for motorists at the junctions was raised as an issue that needs tackling by 3 people
  • Another 3 people would like more or better speed warning signs

Other ideas suggested were getting a lollipop person back, putting in an extra crossing and making the road 20mph.  The designs are now being drawn up and there will be an official consultation soon.  Please keep on telling us what you think.
