Car wash planning application rejected – but ugly canopy remains

by Haringey Lib Dems on 16 July, 2012

At the end of May Cllr Richard Wilson posted on his blog about what he’d done to respond to complaints about an ugly canopy that had sprung up without planning permission at the car wash on Upper Tollington Park (behind the Stroud Green Road Nandos).  The owners applied for retrospective planning permission to try to avoid having to take the structure down.

Richard wrote to residents in nearby streets alerting them to the application (the Council could only be bothered to write to two households), and thanks to all the objections the Council has refused permission.  The objections and the report on the decision can be found here.

However, despite this decision being made in June, the ugly canopy remains.  In fact, last time Cllr Wilson walked passed one of the wooded beams had broken and the structure is clearly not safe. After months of nagging the Council eventually issued an enforcement notice, which now appears to have expired.  Richard commented:

I have now chased the Council’s  enforcement team again, but I hope it doesn’t take months more of nagging to get them to take the action needed to get rid of this structure.
